The communications officer helps to explain UNISON’s policies and provide the information members need to play an active role in their union. They assist with efforts in recruiting new members and help support UNISON’s national and regional campaigns. Importantly they help create a positive image for the branch among members, potential members and the public, this is done by producing newsletters or bulletins for distribution to branch members.
It is also the communications officer’s responsibility to write press releases ensuring that appropriate individuals within the branch are available for comments, interviews, etc.
