Watch the film shot during our day of strike action back on June 22nd to be reminded why we took action, and the concessions that we have won as a result of our solidarity.
Thanks to Ivan Orgaz for filming and editing the video.
David Summers, Young members officer and first time delegate, from London Met University, delivered his speech at UNISON National Delegates Conference (NDC), on 22nd June 2011. On the same day we were on strike, coordinated with the UCU, against job cuts. Watch the short (4 Min) film here:
Our members this week voted to continue our dispute with management over job cuts. But this isn’t on the same scale as the dispute at Southampton UNISON Local Government Branch, so we decided to do a collection and raised close to £200 from our members pockets, and we agreed to match that funding from the branch funds. So we’re sending a cheque to contribute to their hardship fund (for £400) with the hope other branches up and down the country are doing the same. See more here:
UNISON Extraordinary General Meeting: Wednesday 21st September 2011 – CM218 – Calcutta House, City Campus
We are writing to invite you to an Extraordinary General Meeting of the London Metropolitan University UNISON Branch. It will take place at City Campus in room CM218 on Wednesday 21st September 2011 from 12.30pm, and will last up to two hours maximum.
Transport costs will be reimbursed for members based in the North Campus and there will also be a free buffet lunch for all.
This Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) is a chance for members to get together to review the past few month’s activities, since the last AGM, to look ahead and to make plans for the future. It’s your opportunity to discuss issues of concern, elect branch officers, make branch policy and find out more about how you can get involved. Normally we have a meeting of this sort only once a year but due to the large number of current vacancies on the committee and so many important issues to discuss (eg. Pensions, Pay, Job cuts, and the Living Wage) we felt it was important to meet again before the new term begins.
An agenda is enclosed along with nomination forms for branch officers and workplace reps and a form for submitting resolutions. Have you got something to offer? Would you like to play a role and take a part on the committee? A list of current branch officers and reps is included and information about each role is on the website. Nomination forms and resolutions should be submitted by Friday 16th September. General Meetings are one of the most important events for the branch and allows you the chance to be involved in decision-making and setting out our priorities. Please make every effort to come along and have your say.
Management has agreed to time off for members to travel to and attend this meeting. The branch is eager for as many members as possible to be able to come to the meeting. If you have any queries or would like further information, please do get in contact.
Yours is a democratic, member-led union: why not get more involved? See you 21st September.
